Ford Explorer 2010, jeep / SUV 5 doors, 5th generation (12.2010 - 05.2016) - Specifications and Equipment

The fifth generation of the Ford Explorer SUV (the first was released back in 1990) was marked by the abandonment of the frame structure in favor of a monocoque body. The technical basis is characterized by a whole set of multi-brand borrowings. For example, the model is built on the Ford D4 platform, which was a further development of the D3 platform for light SUVs, and the latter, in turn, is based on the P2 platform, originally created by Volvo engineers during the period when the brand was owned by the Ford concern.

The black body pillars (only the center rear ones painted in body color) hint at the design of the Land Rover SUVs that the same Chief Design Engineer Jim Holland worked on. The body is also adorned with trendy headlights and taillights of "stepped" shape. The basic equipment includes fog lamps, roof rails, LED direction indicators in the side mirrors and taillights. The seven-seater salon is upholstered in leather and trimmed with wood-like inserts, there are two hatches. The "Limited" package includes a premium audio system. A separate position is occupied by Explorer Sport - a luxury version of the SUV, equipped with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6.

The all-wheel drive system Terrain Management 4WD System allows you to select the mode depending on road conditions: "Mud / Rut", "Snow / Grass", "Sand", "Track". The independent front and rear suspension provides a close-to-passenger driving character, and the sports suspension has become an invariable attribute of the "charged" Explorer Sport modification. Interestingly, the car, as before, is offered in a mono-drive or all-wheel drive version, however, unlike previous generations, the mono drive is front-wheel drive. This unites the Ford Explorer with most modern crossovers and is a distinctive feature of this particular generation, demonstrating a completely new concept of model development.

Safety systems in the Ford Explorer equipment include ABS, belt pretensioners, front and side airbags, side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats, stability control, including Roll-Over Control (RSC) and Traction Control. A blind spot monitoring system has been added to the Sport package. Among the options available for the Explorer are adaptive cruise control and active parking assistance.

Despite all the radical changes that actually break traditions, the Ford Explorer, as before, allows you to comfortably accommodate seven passengers and will be an excellent choice for large families and for those who often have to carry loads - the two rear rows of seats fold down, increasing the volume of the luggage compartment from 595 to 2285 liters. In addition to cars offered by official dealers, you can find second-hand copies from the North American market on the market, including 2-liter modifications, which demonstrate a good fusion of dynamics and economy.

  1. If you plan to travel more or less long distances - take it, you will not regret it, it is on long trips that this car is revealed. Change the oil more often, immediately change the factory clamps on the anthers of the steering rack and it will serve you faithfully for a very long time.
